Stilistische Überlegungen zu Claude Nougaro
The chanson-singer Claude Nougaro is one of the first who has combined French popular music with Afro-American styles throughout his career. Besides jazz, there are gospel, blues, rap and Latin influences. Being exclusively his own poet and singer, the musical cross-referencing to jazz does emerge in his constant collaboration with French jazz-musicians, who have played with and have composed for him. Furthermore he adapted several well-known jazz-titles for the French public. Thus he gives a characteristic example of how intertextual references operate in the genre chanson.
