15 ungarische Bauernlieder von Béla Bartók

This case study sets out to examine the premises and techniques of Béla Bartók based on the example of the 15 Hungarian Peasant Songs, in which melodies from the rural and archaic world of Hungary are compositionally transformed and thus turned into art music. Bartók’s conviction that these two idioms could be merged without losing their idiosyncrasies proves to be an illusion. This concept, nevertheless, leads to an innovative enrichment of 20th century composing.
