Zur Entstehung des Swing-Begleitrhythmus’
in der Folk Music, in der modernen Popularmusik und im Jazz
Authors of scientific publications in jazz and jazz-related music are mainly musicologists and competent in African studies, and they emphasize the African roots in jazz. Of course, many rhythmic elements of this genre come from the African “immigrants” but the swing-accompaniment came from the rhythm of the Swedish, Scottish and Irish folk-melodies. Via fidel and banjo this swing-pattern and -phrasing became basic for American folk and country music, cake walks, ragtime and especially for the accompaniment on banjo and hi-hat in the swing bands and later for the cymbal ride beat on drums in modern jazz.
