Jazz-Analyse
– Mehrdimensionalität und sinnliche Erfahrung
Musical analysis is an investigation into the sensual experience of music. It is an object-subject analysis that is carried out in a multi-dimensional way. This could be portrayed by means of an ellipse with two focal points. Music is itself analyzed multi-dimensionally by researching (a) it's technical coherence (b) it's functional aspect and (c) the limits of it's meaning within a certain context. Multi-dimensionality is, however, valid for the analyzing subject too; in that it has some influence on namely (a) his interests (b) his range of experience and (c) his past taking on of ideas these formative elements leave their marks on the analyzing process. The specifics in jazz analysis result from its object, that is, (a) its lack of written symbols (b) the characteristics of its structure and (c) the limits of its environment (milieu), but also from the identity problem of 'jazz'. In view of the multi-dimensionality and the glamorous identity of jazz for analytical process strategies (a) sensual experience as the basis also (b) a variety of methods and (c) the courage for heuristics are indispensable.
