Stéphane Grappellis Violintechnik

The present article is to be considered the complement to a recent publication of Frank Murphy's on the violin technique of Stéphane Grappelli (Frank Murphy, "Assembling a Model of Stéphane Grappelli's Violin Technique" in: Jazz Forschung/Jazz Research 24, 1992, pp. 69-83). The author of the present article investigates a Grappelli interpretation of the piece Them There Eyes from the year 1992 through the help of a video recording. He deals especially with Grappelli's playing posture, bowing and left hand technique. The analysis of the sound-picture recording proves to be an especially good possibility for receiving complete information of playing technique.
