Diskographische Probleme
der Nachkriegszeit und ihre Ursachen
Discographical research has gained significance parallel to the recognition of Jazz and Blues as cultural values after World War II. Problems are being set mainly by the changing attitudes of producers and consumers of that music. Progress in technical production and sales conditions have involved a magnitude of commercial and private sound recordings which are very difficult to compile and survey. Object and definition of the 'Discography' have to be amended by including recordings on magnetic tape, by introducing improved methods of formal description, by considering the multiple changes and manipulations a piece of music undergoes during its production and publication today. The coordination and standardization of discographical work is urged, and methods of documentation are proposed.
