Fünfzig Jahre Schrifttum über Jazz
In referring to 50 years of jazz literature, we define "literature" as everything ever written about jazz in the context of sociology, anthropology and other auxiliary disciplines. This body of writing is being subdivided into three blocks:
- The prehistoric stage up to 1917; this year being considered as a milestone of history since it was during the last days of February 1917 that the first recordings of a white band using the word "jazz" in its name were made.
- The stage from 1917 to 1947 when publications devoted themselves with greater or lesser knowledge to some musicial phenomena of jazz and jazzoid music.
- That stage in which general and subjective writing was gradually replaced by musicology proper with qualitatively higher standards.
